1. Choose a chair with adjustable height. To reduce back pain, your feet should be flat on the floor and your thighs should be horizontal with the ground while you’re sitting. If your knees are higher or lower than your hips, you will experience more back pain. With a stationary office chair, you have to adjust to it and hope for the best. An adjustable chair, however, allows you to raise or lower the height or change the angle of the seat to where it’s most comfortable for you.
2. Make sure your office chair has lumbar support. Even though you’re sitting all day, your back still needs support. A lumbar support chair curves inward, contouring to your lower back, helping support your back muscles. This type of office furniture also prevents slouching. The entire backrest should be adjustable so that you can place the lumbar support in the required location for your back.
3. Your office chair should be comfortable. Too much padding or too little cushioning can also make your home office furniture uncomfortable. Add a cushion if you feel you need more padding for your chair seat. Make sure your seat cushion is firm and supportive. Adjust the arm rests so they are not too close or too far from your body. You should feel comfortable when you sit in your office furniture.
4. Pick a swivel chair. To avoid twisting your back in order to reach for objects on your desk, choose an office chair that swivels. Wheels are also an added bonus to any piece of home office furniture.
